258 new homes are set to be delivered on a parcel of land off Lynn Road in Ely after plans were approved by East Cambridgeshire District Council last month.
The 16.11-acre site is to be developed by Linden Homes, part of the Vistry Group, and will form part of the wider North Ely development, bringing 1,200 new homes and a range of community facilities to the city over the coming years.
46 of the new properties will be set aside for rent or shared ownership, while the remaining 212 will be available on the open market. The plans include a number of one-, two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom houses and apartments.
In line with the planning agreement for the development, Linden Homes will also be delivering new ECB-approved cricket pitches and a pavilion which will be adopted by Ely Cricket Club. In addition, the housebuilder will also provide a country park and trim trail facilities which span the length of the development, as well as an off-site cycleway.

Named after the material used to make cricket bats, Willow Woods has been chosen as the development’s marketing name to honour the cricket pitch we will be constructing at the site. Forming part of the wider neighbourhood being created at North Ely, residents at Willow Woods will benefit from a multitude of facilities and be within walking distance of Ely’s historic city centre. Now that our plans have been given the go-ahead by the local authority, we are looking forward to putting the first spade in the ground and getting construction work underway.”
Construction work at Orchards Green is set to get underway this month, with the first homes due to be completed in late summer 2022.
